4                        切勿拼命求財富,                            Do not wear yourself out to get rich,

5                        錢財只過眼雲煙;                   Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,

6                        切勿吃小氣人的飯,                           Do not eat the food of a stingy man,
                          也勿貪吃他的美食,                                   do not crave his delicacies;
7                        他是斤斤計較小人,                                     for he is the kind of man
                          吝嗇成性錙銖必計.                           who is always thinking about the cost.
                        他雖口說, "請吃請喝!"                             "Eat and drink," he says to you,
                          但他虛假口是心非.                                   but his heart is not with you.
8                        讓你吐出吃下菜餚,                         You will vomit up the little you have eaten
                          白費你的道謝恭維.                           and will have wasted your compliments.

                                    我也心中歡喜;                                   then my heart will be glad;
16                                你若口說直言,                                  my inmost being will rejoice
                                    我就內心雀躍.                             when your lips speak what is right.

26                            我兒啊! 把心交給我,                  My son, give me your heart,
                                 雙目要看好我的路,              and let your eyes keep to my ways,
27                             因淫蕩妓女是深坑,                    for a prostitute is a deep pit
                                 淫婦是口狹窄的井.              and a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28                             像土匪埋伏等候你,                    Like a bandit she lies in wait

29                     誰有災禍? 誰有愁苦?                Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
                         誰有紛爭? 誰有怨言?            Who has strife? Who has complaints?
                      誰無故受傷? 誰雙目血紅?  Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30                              就是那些嗜酒如命,               Those who linger over wine,
                                  品嚐調和美酒的人.         who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.
31                              千祈勿看美酒紅彤,              Do not gaze at wine when it is red,
                                  在酒杯中冒泡閃爍,                    when it sparkles in the cup,
                                  飲下沁然異常舒暢!                    when it goes down smoothly!
32                              不幸最終有如蛇咬,                   In the end it bites like a snake
                                  中了蛇的非常劇毒,                         and poisons like a viper.
33                              使你眼見奇怪現象,                  Your eyes will see strange sights
                                  腦海充滿惱人幻影.             and your mind imagine confusing things.
34                              你如躺臥茫茫大海,          You will be like one sleeping on the high seas,
                                  置身船的桅桿頂上,                         lying on top of the rigging.
35                          你高喊, "人打我, 我不痛!     "They hit me," you will say, "But I'm not hurt!
                                     人鞭我, 我不覺!                     They beat me, but I don't feel it!
                                     我何時才會清醒,                              When will I wake up
                                       好再暢飲一杯?"                        so I can find another drink?"

13                我兒啊!你吃蜂蜜對你有益;                  Eat honey, my son, for it is good;
                        蜂房滴蜜甘甜你愛吃.             honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
14                 要知道智慧對你心也甘甜,           Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul;
                     你若得智慧至終必有善報,            if you find it, there is a future hope for you,

                   審判偏袒不公是不對的,                   To show partiality in judging is not good:
24         任何人對有罪的說, "你清白無辜."        Whoever says to the guilty, "You are innocent" -
                  必受百姓咒罵, 列國譴責;            People will curse him and nations denounce him.
25              但判惡人有罪的必得讚揚,          But it will go well with those who convict the guilty,

        及無知人的葡萄園,            past the wineyard of the man who lacks judgment;
